Rights check

Owning the tool isn’t the same as owning everything in it

Your Slack, inbox and ticket queue hold words written by employees, customers and vendors. Before anything is listed, we go through with you what you have the right to license, and we leave out what you don’t.

What we go through with you

  • Customer contractsConfidentiality and data-use clauses in your customer agreements. Data covered by a clause that doesn’t allow this stays out.
  • Privacy policyWhat your privacy policy or notices told customers about how their information is used.
  • Employee communicationsWhether your policies cover work communications, and which channels are in scope. Personal and HR channels stay out.
  • Third-party contentVendor documents, licensed material and anything marked confidential by someone else.
  • Regulated dataWe don’t buy consumer personal data, health records tied to people, or payment card data, and we check that none is mixed into what’s in scope.

Today this review is done by hand, with you, during onboarding. It’s a working session over your tools and date ranges, not a form.

What you keep control of

You choose the tools and date ranges. You review the redacted preview before any lab sees it. You approve the buyer and the terms of every license, and you can unlist and delete your data from our systems whenever you choose.

After a sale, the lab receives the de-identified dataset. Your raw exports are never part of a license. See what we remove.

Our role and your counsel’s

We check for the problems we know to look for, and we won’t list data that fails the check. We aren’t your lawyer, and whether you can license a given dataset ultimately depends on your own contracts and policies. For anything beyond the clear cases, we recommend a quick review with your counsel, and we can walk them through exactly what’s in scope.
